TEAM Center

NMSU Carlsbad’s TEAM Center is the heart of the university’s developmental education program. When they enter the university, students take the COMPASS Placement Test, which determines the level at which they will begin their course work. If students need to strengthen reading, writing, and math skills to ensure their success in college-level classes, they will be placed into the TEAM Center’s non-credit developmental classes in those skill areas. The mission of the developmental education program is to help students cultivate the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for success in a college-level curriculum by providing quality instruction and academic support that encourages students to be active participants in the learning process. To these ends, the director of the program, in conjunction with other departments, develops course objectives that articulate with college classes, schedules and staffs classes, and collects data upon the basis of which informed decisions about changes in the program can be made.

In addition to housing the developmental education program, the TEAM Center provides face-to-face and computer-based tutoring for developmental and college-level classes and assists students in preparing to take the COMPASS, the TEAS, and other program tests.
