Faculty & Staff Training

The Learning Technology Center (LTC) provides professional development training for faculty and staff.  The types of training provided by the LTC is Canvas training, Online Tools Training,  Professional Development training and Quality Matters training.  To register for training, please complete the training registration form. Below is a list of training descriptions offered by the LTC staff:

Canvas Training

Canvas in a Day: This training is designed to provide an introduction to Canvas. Participants will learn how to use the course navigation, help corner, file management, graded activities, rubrics, calendar, syllabus, modules, announcements, people, and pages.

Grades: This 90-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to the Canvas Grades. Participants will learn how to use the Canvas grades and Speedgrader.

Professional Training

iPad for iNMSU: This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to the tips and tricks of using your iPad at NMSU Carlsbad

iPad Q and A: This 60-minute training is designed to provide to answer questions in regards to using your iPad.

NMSU Branding: This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to NMSU branding standards. Participants will learn about fonts, logos, photography, templates, color, tag lines, styles, the approval process, design elements, and digital signage.

Online Tools

Acrobat Pro – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to how to navigate Adobe Acrobat Pro as well as how to convert Word doc. to PDF, covert PDF to Word doc., edit text in a PDF, create a form from scratch and merge multiple PDF files in one PDF as well as make PDF files accessible.

Adobe Connect Basics I – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to the beginning content of using Adobe Connect. Participants will learn how to use the meeting connection diagnostics tool, the attendee tools, audio settings, start a meeting, record meetings and playbacks, give presenter privileges to other attendees, use the chat pod and use a Q & A pod using Adobe Connect.

Adobe Connect Basics II – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to the intermediate content of using Adobe Connect. Participants will learn how to use the share pod by sharing their computer screen, sharing a document, or sharing a whiteboard using Adobe Connect; use the polling pod, breakout rooms, and requesting control of someone else’s computer screen using Adobe Connect.

Animoto – This 45-minute training is designed to provide an introduction on how to navigate Animoto. Participants will learn about setting up their own account, selecting templates, adding music, importing images and sharing their creations.

Catch the Skype Hype – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Skype. Participants will learn how to download Skype, navigate through Skype, manage privacy settings, add contacts, send instant messages, make personal and group video calls, and make conference calls.

Crocodoc – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to using Crocodoc within Canvas. Participants will learn how to use Crocodoc features when grading assignments in Canvas Speedgrader.

Getting Started with Excel – This 90-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Microsoft Excel 2010. Participants will learn how to create a new workbook, apply a template, format numbers, apply cell borders and cell shading, create an Excel table, filter and sort data, create a simple formula, create a chart, print your excel workbook, and use Excel add-ins.

Getting Started with PowerPoint – This 90-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Microsoft PowerPoint 2010. Participants will learn how to open PowerPoint, use the ribbon, find and apply a template, create a presentation, use layout features, and use tips for creating an effective PowerPoint.

Getting Started with Word – This 90-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Microsoft Word 2010. Participants will learn how to open Word 2010; familiarize with Word ribbon; learn how to find and apply a template; create a new document; open a document; save a document; read documents; track changes and insert comments; print your document.

Google Drive – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Google Drive. Participants will learn how to create an account, change Google Drive settings, create and save documents, upload documents and files, create a document for a template, edit and format a document, insert a link and share their documents.

Google Forms – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Google Forms. Participants will learn how to create a form; add questions, headers, and page breaks; add a theme, an image or a video to a form; how to edit, duplicate, and delete a form; how to publish and share forms; choose a form response destination; and store responses in a spreadsheet.

Google Maps – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to how to navigate the updated version of Google Maps. Participants will learn about Pins and Makers, types of transit, system requirements, how to get directions, various ways you can view your route, and how to print your Google Maps.

How to use a Flip Camera – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to creating a video using a Flip camera. Participants will learn how to use a Flip Camera to create a welcome video for their online courses.

Intermediate Excel – This 90-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to the intermediate content of using Microsoft Excel 2010. Participants will learn the Excel worksheet interface of cells, formulas, and functions through the following tasks: Inserting, deleting worksheets; move, copy and rearrange worksheets; inserting rows and columns in a worksheet; grouping and ungrouping worksheets; freezing and unfreezing worksheets panes; formulas with cell references: relative, absolute and mixed reference; linking worksheets and workbooks, merging workbooks; worksheet views; adding header and footer to a worksheet; print titles; preview and print formulas in a worksheet.

LinkedIn – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to LinkedIn. Participants will learn about LinkedIn; how to create an account; how create their profile and add information such as a professional picture, education, jobs, and skills; how to use networks; how to use endorsements; how to find jobs; and how to use interests.

One Drive – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to OneDrive from Office 365. Participants will learn how to access OneDrive, upload a profile picture, create a new document, insert pictures or links, set up page layout, delete a document, create a folder, drag or upload a file, and share a document.

Podcasting – This 90-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to podcasting using Audacity, Dropbox and Podomatic. Participants will learn to create a podcasts using Audacity, Dropbox, and Podomatic.

Respondus 4.0 – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Respondus 4.0.  Participants will learn about Respondus 4.0 to create quizzes and tests for their online courses.

Screencasting – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to screencasting. Participants will learn how to create a screencast using Screencast-o-matic and Jing on content for their Canvas courses, the benefits of using screencasts, and how to add created screencasts into Canvas.  A screencast is a digital recording of computer screen output, also known as a video screen capture, often containing audio narration.

Voki – This 60-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Voki.  Participants will learn how to create a personalized speaking avatar for their Canvas courses and the benefits of using a Voki in your online courses.

Windows 8 – This 90-minute training is designed to provide an introduction to Microsoft Windows 8. Participants will learn about the Windows 8 features; how to get online with Windows 8, how use to the desktop; how to get around using Windows 8; how to search, share, and print; how to get apps for your computer; how to set up email; how to browse the web; how to personalize your computer; and how to use OneDrive.
