Message from NMSU Carlsbad’s President, Dr. John Gratton

The NMSU Carlsbad Commencement ceremonies scheduled for Friday, May 15 have been canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.  The campus is currently working on the structuring of a virtual ceremony on Friday morning of May 15 which would consist of the outstanding student speeches being read, the Roush Award recipient speech being read, the announcing of each graduate name with degrees and certificates earned, and the declaration of completion.  The only personnel in the room will be the Executive Team (in regalia) as we must honor the under 5 group stipulation.  We will tape the ceremonies in case anyone wishes a copy of the virtual ceremonies. Students can pick up their diploma covers at a later date. I wish we could post pictures, but that would necessitate each graduate coming to campus and that would violate the 5 person limit.
I really regret that the ceremonies had to be canceled as commencement is my favorite ceremony for the entire year. However, each of us must take every precaution in order to slow down and defeat the spread of this virus.”
